Meal Cold Weather (MCW) is a dry ration (individual food ration) adopted for the supply of the US Armed Forces. The winter set is intended for feeding in low temperature conditions when carrying out long-term operations with intensive movement. In the composition of the ration, the sodium content is limited, which prevents the body from dehydrating at low temperatures.
The rations are packed in a white thick plastic bag measuring 25 * 15 * 5 centimeters. It contains the menu number (there are 12 in total) and the name of the main dish.
The total calorie content of the ration is about 1540 kilocalories, the weight is from 500 to 750 grams, depending on the menu. The ration is designed for one meal. In addition to the main course, the ration contains a hot instant drink - tea, coffee or cocoa, as well as a cold one in the form of powdered lemonade. There is no first, for dessert - cookies, sweets, muffins, biscuits. The composition may include biscuits and soft cheese.
For reheating food, the MRE includes a special flameless chemical heater package. For the preparation of the main course, 0.5 l is required. water, for drinks 0.4-0.75 liters. The diet is not recommended to be consumed for more than 10 days and it is advisable to combine it with another food. A small amount of water should be poured into the heater, and then a bag of food or drink should be placed inside it.
The shelf life of such a dry ration is 3 years at a temperature of about +25 degrees Celsius. As the temperature decreases, the shelf life increases.
