Within the framework of the Ukrainian-American international exercises Rapid Trident 2020, American Osprey visited Lviv region - this is how the name of the Osprey tiltrotor is translated. The full name of these birds of prey is the Bell V-22 Osprey. Two vehicles of this type, belonging to the air tactical group of the Special Operations Forces of the US Armed Forces in Europe, provide in Ukraine the training of joint tasks by American special forces together with units of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine within the framework of bilateral training.

Having made a flight from the Vinnitsa region to the Lviv region, the Ospreiv crews took on board the Ukrainian Special Forces soldiers participating in the Rapid Trident international exercises of the International Center for Peacekeeping and Security of the National Academy of Land Forces.

Over one of the training areas of the training ground, NATO and Ukrainian special forces performed training airborne assault without a parachute method.
- Our work involves constant self-improvement and mastery of landing techniques from various types of aircraft. This time they landed from the American Ospreivs. And this is very different from how to conduct a non-stop landing from a helicopter. There are differences. And so it is necessary to train, - says the lieutenant of the MTR of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy A. - it was not the first time to carry out joint training tasks together with the special forces of the USA and other NATO countries. We are actively exchanging experience with colleagues. In particular, we were together on exercises in Germany.

It should be noted that the American Osprey tiltrotor is the world's only serial machine of this class. A hybrid of an aircraft and a helicopter is capable of carrying 9 tons of cargo or two dozen fighters on board. The V-22 flies twice as fast as the American twin-engined CH-47 Chinook, and its payload is almost three times greater.
The Osprey's unique advantages come from its swiveling propellers. They are capable of generating both lift and horizontal thrust. As a result, the Osprey can hover in place like a helicopter. A pair of Rolls-Royce engines, each delivering 6150 horsepower on the shaft, located in nacelles at the very ends of the fenders. These nacelles with propellers with a diameter of 11.4 m are deployed at angles from 0 to 96 degrees, and make such adjustments in just 12 seconds.

A tiltrotor is a complex machine. The wings are lined with kilometers of fuel and hydraulic pipelines, and the fuselage is strong enough to withstand the deformations of two 437kg engines. Composite materials are used in the tiltrotor so that its weight is less and the strength of the body is greater. The propeller blades fold down to allow the Osprey to be based on aircraft carriers.
