In the previous parts of our review of the NAR Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) (part 1, part 2), we focused on the method of laying the harness and its practical application, as described in the instructions for the product. Today I will talk about an alternative way of laying it, and its features.

I met this method while attending the RC TacMed one-day TCCC and Rifle Training course. It has its differences from the standard one prescribed in the instructions, as well as its pros and cons, which I would like to talk about in more detail in today's publication.

So, let's go through this method step by step.

  • Glue a white sling designed for time stamps to one of the hooks as shown in the photo above. Please note that the edge of the white sling protrudes approximately 3-5 mm. This is intentionally done in order to simplify and speed up the sticking of the Velcro in a hurry and under stress. Using the protruding edge, you will be able to grab hold of something with frozen hands, hands with examination or tactical gloves.

  • Pass the working end of the harness (Red Tip, marked in red) into the slot of the fixing buckle located closer to the platform with hooks. This step repeats the installation in the “one-handed” configuration described in the instructions. Differences will begin a little later.

  • Glue the working end of the harness between the hooks for the gate as shown in the photo above. Now your harness is closed and consists of two sliding loops, one edge of which is passed through a double-slotted buckle-lock.

  • Glue the Velcro looping over the entire length.

  • As a result, you will get the result shown in the photo above. Instead of two loops, you will have one double, formed by two loops glued together.

Fold the loop in half and fold the remainder behind the NAR Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T). Your tourniquet is ready to use to stop critical bleeding of the upper and lower extremities.

What are the features of this method of laying the harness:

  • Compactness - unlike standard styling, in this case fewer Velcro layers form, which is why the NAR Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) takes up a little less space.
  • Speed and uniformity of application - I’ll talk about this in more detail in the next publication on the practical application of NAR Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) from this package.
  • Preservation of Velcro - both the Velcro of the tourniquet (which is the main one, which is auxiliary for time stamps) are always in a glued state along its entire length. Due to this, the probability of clogging the Velcro with dust, dirt, debris, sand or snow is significantly reduced, and its service life is significantly increased.

The practical application of the harness from this styling also has its own peculiarities, therefore we will fully devote it to our next publication.
