Lithium Polymer (Li-Po) batteries are the successors to the popular lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries. The main advantage of Li-Po batteries is undoubtedly the capacity to size / weight ratio. These batteries are very compact and at the same time energy efficient, which makes it ideal for almost any AEG actuator. Lithium polymer technology has no memory effect and allows frequent recharging without the need for a complete discharge. Charging is often the optimal operating mode for this type of battery.
When in use, it is important to avoid over-discharging the Li-Po battery to voltage levels below 3V per cell and overcharging above 4.2V per cell.
Another important advantage of Li-Po batteries is their low self-discharge rate. During storage, the battery loses about 3-5% of its charge per month. However, it should be borne in mind that storage without use for a long time can lead to discharges below the maximum permissible level (3 V per cell) and irreversible chemical reactions that can degrade the performance of the battery, lead to damage, and in some cases to fire. An unused lithium polymer battery should be charged an average of 70%.
Subject to the rules of use, a battery of this type will have a life of 500 - 700 cycles. Ambient temperature is also an important factor in durability. Unlike many other types of batteries, Li-Pol batteries perform well at low temperatures; however, charge them at room temperature. Also note that in order to maintain performance when charging such batteries, you need to use balancing when connected; For this, most Li-Po cells are equipped with a special connector, and high-quality chargers have built-in balancers.
