ComTac VIII is the next generation of 3M Peltor communication and hearing protection headsets with an updated design and optimized system integration.
Suitable for police and military use. Improved situational awareness allows defenders to operate more effectively during tactical operations.
The ear cushions and headband have been completely redesigned to improve cushioning, comfort and overall ease of use.
Peltor ComTac 8 Headset Design features
Low Profile Headband. A completely redesigned headband, with even pressure distribution and a slim low profile, helps improve comfort and eliminate hot spots, especially when worn under a ballistic helmet.
Easy disassembly for adapters. Simplified cable disconnection and redesigned snap-on/off guides for easy transition between accessory attachment connectors (ARC) and headband.
Redesigned cups that integrate with the ballistic helmet. It is designed to maximize noise cancellation with limited cup thickness — this keeps the headphones compatible with ballistic helmets with medium to low cut. A deeper cup with more ear space helps improve long-term comfort, especially when worn in conjunction with earplugs.
Updated external microphone design. The profile of the earcups widens and deepens the location of the upgraded microphones, equipped with a durable windshield.
New battery compartment. An upgraded, waterproof compartment that requires no tools to change batteries.
3M Peltor ComTac VIII Headset Features
Four languages for audio guidance: English, German, Spanish and French.
Noise Cancellation — automatically cuts off sound to improve speech intelligibility in noisy environments.
Ambient listening, also known as talkthrough. This is a technology that allows safe sounds to bypass electronic hearing protection, helping to protect against harmful noises. A microphone picks up sounds from outside the headset and transmits them to a speaker inside the headset. A level-dependent digital audio system detects noise levels that exceed the desired threshold and compresses them to a safe decibel level or amplifies faint sounds to an audible level.
Mission Audio Profiles (MAP). The Peltor ComTac VIII headpsets allow you to customize the audio settings to suit the mission. Traditionally, headphones have a set frequency specification and the operator can only increase or decrease the volume. The MAP feature provides new advanced ambient listening modes that provide access to different gain settings, but with frequency correction to improve listening specifications for five types of environments. MAP profiles are designed to accommodate a variety of combat support operations.
Observation — to maximize auditory awareness and sound detection in quiet environments. Used when the user is not moving and is in a quiet environment: overwatch,
hide spot, stop to listen, etc.
Patrolling — for high situational awareness when walking in a low noise environment. High volume with reduced high frequencies to limit sounds such as footsteps on gravel, grass moving underfoot, or equipment moving across the body.
Conversation — for the closest approximation to open-ear listening and sound localization. The ideal setting for extended use when other modes are not required.
Comfort — for comfort in noisy environments. The profile is designed for use in high noise environments: tactical vehicles, air transport, etc., where listening to the environment is not a priority for communication.
Ambient Listening Off — to maximize volume reduction in high noise environments and radio or NIB monitoring.
