The PS-31 binocular night vision device (BNVD) is a compact, lightweight, two-tube device created as a replacement for the outdated PS-15 model. Among the many binocular night vision devices, the PS-31 is compact and lightweight.
The PS31 is equipped with a high-performance Gen 3 image intensifier made in the USA. Its expected lifespan is 10,000-15,000 hours, which is 3-4 times longer than the second generation. In addition, devices with Gen.III image intensifiers from Elbit Systems work great in extremely low light (residual light) conditions.
The color of the "White Phosphor" phosphor provides a clearer and more contrasting image in low light conditions than the green analog. White coloring allows you to better distinguish details and objects at long distances. In addition, it is believed that the human eye perceives white color better, which makes observation more comfortable.
In close collaboration with US operators, the PS-31 was developed to increase the resolution of the system, significantly reduce the weight on the head, improve the CG system, provide additional operational utility, improve the overall situational awareness of the operator, and add a 50-degree field of view for maximum visibility in the field.
The tubes have automatic gain control, allowing the system to adjust the image brightness depending on the situation on the ground.
The PS31-3WN has independent rotating tube housings, allowing the operator to use the glasses in a binocular or monocular configuration.
Working with two tubes simultaneously provides depth perception of space, facilitates orientation on the ground, passing obstacles, and interacting with objects such as control panels or door handles.
In turn, the monocular mode allows for faster adaptation to lighting changes typical of combat conditions, where it is necessary to quickly switch between night vision and red dot/day sights.
Another benefit of independently rotating tubes is the ability to "flatten" the device against the front of the helmet when folded. This reduces the overall profile of the user, increasing safety and reducing the risk of damage to the equipment.
