The PS-31 Binocular Night Vision Device (BNVD) is a modern dual-tube system designed as a replacement for the legacy PS-15. Its compact size and lightweight design make the PS-31 one of the smallest and lightest binocular night vision devices in its class, ideal for extended helmet-mounted operations.

The device is equipped with U.S.-manufactured Gen 3+ Level 1 image intensifier tubes, with an expected service life of 10,000–15,000 hours, which is 3–4 times longer than second-generation devices. Gen III tubes from Elbit Systems perform reliably even in extremely low-light conditions and minimal residual light.

The White Phosphor technology provides a clearer, more detailed, and higher-contrast image compared to traditional green phosphor. White imagery improves detail recognition at long distances and reduces visual fatigue.

PS-31 was developed in close cooperation with U.S. operators to optimize:

• helmet and neck load reduction;

• device balance on the helmet;

• ergonomics and overall situational awareness;

• a 50° field of view for maximum visibility in operational environments.

The device features automatic gain control, which adjusts image brightness based on ambient light conditions, along with bright light protection.

The PS31-3WN variant has independently rotating optical housings, allowing use in either full binocular or monocular mode.

• Binocular operation provides natural depth perception, easier navigation, obstacle negotiation, and interaction with objects.

• Monocular mode enables rapid adaptation to changing light conditions, such as switching between night vision and daytime or red-dot optics.

Independent rotating tubes also allow the device to be folded compactly against the front of the helmet, reducing user profile and minimizing risk of damage.
