Kevlar body armor IOTV (Improved Outer Tactical Vest) is an improved tactical body armor is a regular body armor of the US Army, which replaced the OTV (Outer Tactical Vest), is a vest of the IBA (Interceptor Body Armor) system.
Optimal design features provide the best weight distribution for both the vest's ballistic system and additional equipment, resulting in increased comfort, durability and mobility.
The mass of a fully equipped body armor with all components and armor inserts is about 13.6 kg. The advantage of the design is that the weight of the body armor is distributed to a greater extent on the muscles of the back and abdomen, and not on the shoulders (as with OTV vests).
The main features of the vest are: an increased area of anti-fragmentation protection, the presence of a quick release system, the ability to install side armor elements without the use of additional modules.
The vest consists of a chest and back parts, two side parts and an internal adjustment belt.
The vest has a quick (emergency) release system in case of an emergency.
Drop system: there is a slot in the upper chest for access to a cable loop, the short side of which provides a shoulder connection, and the long side connects the dorsal attachment block: the side parts of the body armor and the elastic belt.
When the cable is pulled out, the vest splits into 2 parts: the front part (chest, side parts and belt, front part of the collar) and the back part (back and back part of the collar).
The vest can be put on in two ways: over the head, and unfastening the shoulder strap or through unfastening the side part.
The body armor case is equipped with the PALS system for attaching modular pouches, accessories and equipment of the MOLLE/MOLLE II, MALICE, ALICE systems, etc.
Removable side insert pockets.
A sling with a D-ring is sewn on the shoulder, to which additional equipment can be attached.
Made from 500 denier Cordura nylon.
The vest itself without inserts, made of soft Kevlar fabric armor, provides protection according to the IIIA standard of the NIJ standard - against fragments of ammunition and 9 mm bullets of the 9 × 19 mm cartridge.
