The Protective Combat Uniform (PCU) line of clothing was developed for U.S. Special Operations Forces as a garment that separates into a layering system for easy wear and comfort for troops, to replace the ECWCS Combat Uniform, which has a more simplified fabric and cut.
One of the main elements of the new complex is the Level 5 jacket made of a special Flex nylon fabric, the fibers of which are impregnated with encapsulated silicone.
It is characterized by very high durability, lightness and compactness thanks to the basic nylon fabric.
Micro-ripstop spinning gives the jacket additional resistance to abrasion and good breathability.
DWR impregnations made of encapsulated silicone repels moisture and dry snow and protects reliably against wind, even in extreme weather conditions.
The jacket dries quickly, stretches well to the figure, reduces infrared radiation (providing additional invisibility in the dark), does not cough and protects against UV radiation (sunburn and other degenerative effects on the skin).
The jacket has 4 pockets – two chest pockets with ventilation, which provide drying of small wet things, such as a hat, scarf, balaclava or gloves, by their own evaporation due to body heat; additionally, 2 pockets are made on the sleeves, with a zipper.
For greater comfort of the wearer, the cut is made anatomically, the back has an extension to protect the buttocks from cold and moisture, and the sleeves in the area of the elbows and forearms are reinforced with a double layer of fabric to increase durability.
Can be used with a first or second layer of clothing in moderate temperatures, or with a second layer and fleece insulation in colder temperatures in dynamic conditions.
The jacket is adjustable in volume by elastic tucks at the bottom and sides.
The cuffs are elasticized with additional Velcro fastening for comfort and heat retention.
The hood is conveniently adjustable with elastic ties and works with all kinds of ballistic helmets, and when not needed, it is hidden very conveniently in the collar (pocket with Velcro fastener).
There is ventilation under the arms on two double zippers to dissipate excess heat from the body during intense physical activity.
