A repair kit, in this case, is a unique "patch" for repairing the fabric shell of ceramic armor plates such as ESAPI, ESBI, and their equivalents.
It consists of a 75x150 mm piece of fabric with a highly adhesive backing that adheres securely to the armor plate shell.
Using a repair kit extends the life of damaged plates by preventing further fabric deterioration and moisture ingress. It is most often seen as a patch on an armor plate, covering a damaged shell (for example, a chipped corner).
Instructions for use:
1. Clean the armor plate of dirt.
2. Degrease the plate surface.
3. Cut a piece of fabric to the required size and make slits on both sides.
4. Ensure the ambient temperature is above 18°C (64°F) for maximum adhesion.
5. Apply like a regular sticker, spreading it evenly over the entire surface and pressing out any air bubbles with something like a spoon.
6. Leave it for 24 hours to allow the patch to adhere better to the tile surface.
By the way, important to know! The ESAPI patch is considered unsuitable for use if any of the following conditions are present:
1. The outer coating is damaged, exposing the ceramic tile material.
2. The patch is cracked, and you hear loose pieces clinking when shaking it.
3. You hear creaking, cracking, or squeaking sounds from the ceramic tile when the patch is manually twisted (torque test).
4. The composite backing is delaminating (backing layers separate – tap test).
5. You can feel or hear cracking in the ceramic tile when you firmly squeeze the outer perimeter of the tile (1.25 cm/1").
6. The tile was hit by a bullet or shrapnel.
