Book by Rainshouse “Episodes of War”
“Episodes of War” is neither fiction nor a dry chronicle of events. It is a vivid collection of real stories from Ukrainian soldiers who, since 2014, have endured the most difficult trials of the Russo-Ukrainian war. The book brings together over 100 personal accounts from fighters, presenting the war as it is seen and felt by those on the front lines.
The publication includes stories from representatives of various units and roles — assault troops, medics, разведчики (reconnaissance soldiers), and commanders. These accounts cover the defense of the Kyiv region, the battles for Azovstal, Bakhmut, and Avdiivka, the liberation of Snake Island, counteroffensives in the Kharkiv, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia directions, as well as complex operations behind enemy lines. Each episode reflects a personal story, experience, and perspective on events shaping modern Ukrainian history.
The book stands out for its sincerity and documentary nature. There is no embellishment — only real memories of combat, losses, brotherhood, fear, and courage. Alongside dramatic moments, it also reveals the everyday life of soldiers: their routines, humor, inner struggles, and philosophical reflections on war and the future.
The project originated from an initiative created by the soldiers themselves to preserve their experiences and pass them on to future generations. It aims to capture what cannot be fully conveyed through news reports or official briefings — the human dimension of war.
Symbolically, the release of the book is timed to coincide with the Day of the Ukrainian Volunteer — a day honoring those who were the first to stand in defense of the country. The publication is also supported by charitable initiatives, emphasizing its social importance.
