ECWCS Gen III Level 6 is a lightweight outer shell from the Extended Cold Weather Clothing System, officially used by the U.S. Armed Forces. It is designed to be worn over base and insulation layers in rainy, windy, and cold environments.
The jacket is constructed from advanced GORE-TEX® Paclite two-layer laminate, which is approximately 30% lighter than materials used in previous ECWCS generations. The membrane delivers a high level of waterproofing and wind protection while maintaining excellent moisture vapor transmission during physical activity.
A key feature of GORE-TEX Paclite is the absence of a traditional third inner layer. Instead, it utilizes a thin carbon-based protective coating with oil-repellent properties, preventing contamination and clogging of the membrane pores. The smooth inner surface reduces friction between clothing layers, making the jacket easier to put on and take off while enhancing overall freedom of movement.

Thanks to its thin and lightweight construction, the jacket effectively protects against rain, snow, and wind, while in combination with other ECWCS layers it provides comfort in cold conditions. When packed, it is highly compact, making it easy to carry in a backpack.
The high stand-up collar features a Velcro-secured pocket for the hood. The spacious hood is adjustable with elastic drawcords and stows neatly into the collar. Its volume allows the jacket to be worn over most types of protective helmets.
The front features a frost-resistant, two-way IDEAL zipper covered by a Velcro-secured storm flap for additional wind protection. Sleeve cuffs are equipped with elastic inserts and Velcro adjustments for a precise and secure fit.
A Velcro panel on the chest allows for rank insignia or morale patches. Two vertical zippered openings with IDEAL zippers provide quick access to pockets or underlying gear layers.
