The 3M Peltor ComTac VIII is a professional tactical headset designed for hearing protection in high-noise environments while maintaining ambient environmental awareness. It allows users to hear speech, commands, and other critical auditory signals while automatically limiting exposure to dangerous noise levels.
Two ambient microphones provide high-quality perception of environmental sounds and help maintain spatial awareness without the need to remove the headset. The model is built for operation in demanding conditions, including military, security, and law enforcement missions, as well as for integration with two-way radios and other communication gear.
Its rugged design meets strict military standards (MIL-STD-810H and MIL-STD-461G), ensuring reliable protection against dust, moisture, and interference. In addition to high-level overall ingress protection (IP68), resistance to salt water is guaranteed (salinity: 5% / depth: 2 m / duration: 30 min). A key tactical advantage is its fail-safe capability: even if the battery dies or fails completely, external radio communication is maintained, which can be crucial in mission-critical situations.
For connection to radio communication systems, it features a 4-pin Nexus TP-120 NATO J11 connector compatible with standard PTT (Push-To-Talk) buttons, allowing quick switching between transmit and receive modes without removing the headset.
The 3M PELTOR MAP (Mission Audio Profiles) system allows users to select appropriate ambient sound processing profiles based on the operational context. Users can adapt ambient listening characteristics to enhance comfort and speech clarity.
The headset is equipped with a dynamic waterproof microphone rated at IP68. The adjustable low-profile headband with a rubberized strap ensures even pressure distribution and is engineered for prolonged wear. The design is fully compatible with tactical helmets.
Compact, low-profile ear cups do not restrict movement or interfere with weapon handling and shooting positions. Their geometry is optimized for use under helmets and alongside other personal protective equipment.
Powered by two AAA batteries providing approximately 50 hours of operation. The headset provides low-battery warnings and includes an automatic shut-off feature after 4 hours of inactivity to conserve power.
Soundscape technology enhances speech intelligibility during radio communications, helping to maintain clear communication in high-noise conditions.
