The first samples of this model were developed by the Austrian company Ludwig Zeitler in 1975: it was assumed that the Glock 78 would be used as a bayonet for the Stg58 rifle. The final version, adopted for service, was proposed by the Austrian company Glock, which eventually received an order for army supplies. The knife was named Glock 78 Feldmesser. The Glock Feldmesser 78 knife is made from 1095 carbon spring steel, heat treated to HRC55 hardness. A black oxide coating is applied to its surface for corrosion protection. The handle is made of polyamide, which has high mechanical strength and wear resistance. The surface is rough, making the knife easy to hold in your hand. The crosshair of the knife is a stamped part and therefore does not look so aesthetically pleasing, but for a tactical knife this can hardly be considered a disadvantage. One end of the crosshair is curved so that it forms a support for the thumb, being at the same time a bottle opener. The Glock sheath, weighing only 45 g, is unique, it does not have a single metal part and is completely made of plastic. The latch of the scabbard is made in the form of a simple plastic tide in the form of a console, on which the lock button sits. The sheath can be attached to a belt up to 60 mm wide. There are two holes in the lower part of the scabbard: a “drainage” rectangular one for removing moisture accumulated in the sheath and a round one for attaching a cord that serves to additionally fix the scabbard. You can place the knife in the sheath either way.
The classic army knife can be used for any purpose: as a weapon or a camping knife, to open ammo boxes or bottles.
