The ECWCS Gen III Level 7 insulated trousers manufactured by Tennier Industries are specifically designed for operation in extreme cold-weather conditions. They are part of the third-generation ECWCS (Extreme Cold Weather Clothing System), widely used by military personnel as well as civilians operating in harsh climates.
The trousers are engineered to provide maximum thermal protection while shielding the wearer from wind and moisture. The durable nylon outer shell features a water-resistant treatment that keeps the user dry without sacrificing breathability or strength. Full-length side zippers allow for quick donning and removal over boots and gear, and provide rapid access when necessary.
The outer fabric incorporates EPIC technology, which encapsulates fibers with a silicone polymer to enhance water resistance while maintaining airflow. Insulation is provided by Climashield APEX (170 g / 6 oz), a lightweight synthetic fill offering excellent thermal performance and retaining warmth even when wet.
When combined with ECWCS base and mid layers (L1–L5), these trousers allow prolonged exposure to temperatures down to –40°C, even during low-activity or static conditions. Reinforced nylon knee panels significantly increase durability during kneeling and movement across rough terrain.
