AN/PVS-14 (Army/Navy Portable Visual Search) is a portable monocular night vision device.
The AN/PVS-14 was the first real multi-purpose monocular capable of performing a vast array of military missions. It is also the most popular night vision device among law enforcement.
The White Phosphor features a high contrast screen that gives a black and white image for better target detection and recognition. Maneuvers in low light or at night appear more natural with the addition of contrasting details, shapes and shadows, providing more visual information.
As a monocular, the instrument allows one of the operator's eyes to adapt to night vision, which is important when changing lighting conditions in the field force the user to switch between auxiliary and autonomous vision.
