Patagonia, Inc. is an American retailer of outdoor recreation clothing. It was founded by Yvon Chouinard in 1973 and is based in Ventura, California.
The name Patagonia comes from the mountainous region of South America occupying the southern part of the Andes Mountains. The logo of the inspired peak of Fitz Roy, which remains one of the most difficult mountains to climb - Chouinard managed to climb it in 1968.
Patagonia is widely recognized as an outdoor brand that is a leader in caring for our Earth. With a mission to “create the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, and use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis,” Patagonia has set a master plan.
However, Patagonia takes amazing measures towards those around them. Most of the brand's materials are made from recycled fabrics such as polyester, nylon and wool. The same brand has a specific business model: it rejects standard fashion, produces high-quality and inclusive products, and offers repair and care programs for clothing.
Patagonia has a dedicated team that is focused on supporting USSOCOM in the delivery of Made/Berry Compliance technical and cold weather combat uniforms as a primary supplier of combat uniforms.
Patagonia's MARS (Military Advanced Regulator System) PCU (Protective Combat Uniform) line was made for Special Operation Forces (SOF) like Navy Seals.
In September 2022, Chouinard transferred ownership of Patagonia to the Patagonia Purpose Trust, a trust overseen by the Chouinard family and advisors. Chouinard's stated goal was for profits to be used to address climate change and protect land.
According to the recently released Axios Harris Poll 2023, which annually surveys the reputation of leading brands, Patagonia took the top spot as the brand with the best reputation.
