In today's publication, we’ll touch on some Leatherman accessories that expand the capabilities of the Leatherman Surge multitool, and are also suitable for other models.
It’s clear that releasing a multitool to please equally all its potential users is simply impossible, because Leatherman offers some functional extensions in the form of additional accessories, which can be purchased in addition to the existing tool. In particular, in today's publication we will focus on the Leatherman Bit Kit and the Leatherman Bit Driver Extender shown in the photo below.
Leatherman accessories are delivered in transparent blisters with a cardboard insert in black and yellow colors and brand symbols, as well as instructions for use on a separate sheet of paper. The instruction, as in the case of multitools, is universal, and includes a description of several products at once. I suspect that in this way Leatherman makes picking orders easier and saves on paper, but I cannot blame them.
So, consider Leatherman accessories in more detail.
Leatherman Bit Kit
Leatherman Bit Kit is a universal set of bits for compatible adapters in Leatherman multitools, including twenty-one double-sided bits for various types of slots and common types of fasteners (bolts, screws, anchors, etc.).
The bits are held in two plastic pencil cases shown in the photo above. Each pencil case has dimensions of about 3.5 cm x 10.2 cm x 0.7 cm (width \ height \ depth) and contains 10 bits of the main size, which allows you to comfortably place them at the back wall of Leatherman covers, as well as inside pistol magazine pouches like Condor Single Pistol Mag Pouch and its counterparts. In the upper part of the case there is a small hole for the placement of precision bits (see photo above). According to a stamp from the top photo, Leatherman Bit Kit pencil cases are made in Taiwan.
As I said above, in two cases there is a set of 21 bits, including the following bits and categories:

Despite its proprietary nature and designations unusual for our latitudes in fractional parts of an inch, the Leatherman Bit Kit has one significant advantage that cannot be taken away - its compact bit sizes from this set. In the photo above, for comparison, I put 1/4 ″ hexagonal bits with the same slots common in our area. As you can see, due to the fact that the bits from the Leatherman Bit Kit are double-sided, they significantly benefit not only in weight, but also in sizes not exceeding 0.7 cm x 3.2 cm x 0.4 cm (width \ height \ depth) regardless of the slot used.
Because of this, the Leatherman Bit Kit is much smaller in size and weight than any 1/4 ″ bit set, and often has a large number of heads. Because of this, the set is more convenient and less overall, which makes it convenient for transportation on the body, both with the multi-tool and separately.
As for the distribution of bits in the pencil cases, in the photo above I placed all the flat and cross-shaped screwdrivers with torxes in one of them, highlighting the remaining under the hexagons and square shank. This layout method seemed to me the most convenient because of the grouping of bits by type and matching the number of slots in each pencil case. You can organize your bits in any way convenient for you, but I just have to fasten the loops of pencil cases together using microcord to prevent the possibility of their loss.
Leatherman Bit Driver Extender
Leatherman Bit Driver Extender is an extension adapter for bits from Leatherman about 8.2 cm x 1 cm in size (length \ diameter). This accessory is suitable for all Leatherman multitool models equipped with an adapter for their proprietary bits. This list includes the Leatherman Charge TTi, and the Leatherman Surge we reviewed earlier.
On the one hand, the Leatherman Bit Driver Extender is a mount that in its form inherits the outlines of Leatherman's proprietary bits, which ensures compatibility with adapters on different multitools. At the back of the accessory is a head with a slot for bits.
The ability to use 1/4 ″ hexagonal bits widespread in our area at one time was one of the reasons for choosing SOG Powerlock multitool. So Leatherman Bit Driver Extender allows you to use not only the proprietary bits of Leatherman, but also quite running hexagonal bits, which can be purchased at the nearest business market. For Leatherman bits, this accessory serves more as an extension cord.
The photo above shows how different types of bits are placed in the Leatherman Bit Driver Extender. Inside, they are held by a small ring with a slot, which prevents them from falling back during operation. If you use bits from the Leatherman Bit Kit, it is very difficult to extract them from the head with your bare hands due to the pressure ring (especially on small bits), so you may need to remove the Bit Driver Extender from the adapter, after which you can remove the bit from the multitool pliers from heads.

Quick-Release Lanyard Ring & Removable Pocket Clip
Pocket Clip & Lanyard Ring is a small set for fixing compatible multitools and protecting them from loss. It comes as the rest of Leatherman accessories in a transparent plastic blister with a cardboard enclosure.
The package includes the packaging with the traditional color scheme for Leatherman and the same, the same universal instruction for the rest of the accessories, as well as a metal bracket and ring.
Let's start with the small, namely lanyard, Leatherman Lanyard Ring. You probably already saw something similar in our review of Leatherman Charge TTi, where a similar ring was included in the gift edition kit. In the case of the regular editions of Leatherman Surge and Leatherman Wave, you have to purchase separately.
The ring is available in two colors: Satin and Black Oxide, which allows you to choose the right option for the color of your multitool, and has 2 curly protrusions, with which it goes into the corresponding hole on the multitool leg and is fixed there by the Piano Lock locking mechanism.
After installation, the multitool with the ring will look like the photo above, and the ring will allow you to "put your tool on a leash" with a paracord, or on a chain. Both of these tools will protect your multitool from loss, it can be quite relevant when you use it in conditions with a lot of movements, working at heights, on moving land, water or air transport, etc., or just appreciate your tool.

The second accessory from the Pocket Clip & Lanyard Ring is a metal bracket, has the same curly protrusions as the ring, for mounting in the same holes on the multi-tool.
In the installed form, the bracket for the Lwatherman Surge multitool can be seen in the photo above, and as you see, you do not have the ability to install both the ring and the bracket at the same time. Therefore, you have to determine which of these accessories suits you better.
The purpose of the staple is very obvious, because it can be used to fix compatible Leatherman multitool models in pockets, as is usually done with pocket folding knives. Therefore, in the case when you want to carry not just a folding knife, but a full-sized multi-tool as part of your Every Day Carry (EDC) set, then Leatherman Pocket Clip will allow you to do this very comfortably and invisibly.
If you are going to buy Pocket Clip & Lanyard Ring just for the ring under the lanyard, do not rush to spend money, because Leatherman Surge, for example, already has a built-in ring, but, unfortunately, not everyone knows about it.
To access the built-in ring, you need to return the multitool to itself on the side where the adapter for the blades (saw and file) is located. Inside the lining, which hides the fixed instrument, just below the swing of the Piano Lock locking system, you can find a small metal ledge depicted on the left side of the photo above. After you find it, you will need to press on it from the inside of the tool for which a screwdriver bit is well suited, which is included in the multitool package. After pressure on this protrusion, a flat ring will appear on the right side of the photo above from the opposite side of the fixing bolt. Due to the relatively small size and diameter of this ring, it’s true that it’s only enough to pass microcord, or a paracord without a core. If this option does not suit you, and you need to skip a thicker paracord, chain, or even a carbine here, then you have to purchase Leatherman Pocket Clip & Lanyard Ring with a wider ring diameter.
