Ganzo G202B is a full-sized universal multi-tool of the Chinese manufacturer Ganzo Tools with good field potential.

Concerning multi-tools, there is a widespread opinion that sounds something like this: “If you want a multi-tool, take Leatherman.” But Leatherman is not the only one living in the world, especially when it comes to the budget price segment, to which the latter’s products clearly do not belong. For those who for one reason or another are not ready to pay impressive amounts for a multi-tool, but need a high-quality tool at a reasonable price, it will not be superfluous to pay attention to the Ganzo G202B, on the example of which I will try to show that China can still produce decent products .

To begin with, by tradition, a brief listing of the main characteristics declared by the manufacturer:

The Ganzo G202B multitool kit leaves the factory in a very simple but laconic packaging made of corrugated cardboard, on the front wall of which is the Ganzo Tools logo and the slogan of the company “Nothing impossible”, hinting at the versatility of the product. Inside the box you will find a hard case made of nylon, a set of bits and a bit holder, the Ganzo G202B itself, a leaflet with a list of the main characteristics and a warranty card.

The case, the outer layer of which is made of nylon, has a molded base inside, so it does not deform after the contents are removed. At the front, the cover flap closes with a button with the Ganzo Tools logo.

Three nylon slings are located on the back of the cover: one of them assumes vertical, the remaining two - horizontal positioning of the cover with the tool on belts up to 5 cm wide. With the PALS modular interface, without the use of additional tools, integration, unfortunately, is not provided.

The internal space of the cover is divided into two sections, one of which is provided for the Ganzo G202B multitool itself. The section located closer to the back wall is smaller in width and reserved for a complete set of bits with a bit holder, pressed on top by the cover flap, thereby preventing their accidental loss and / or loss.

We must pay tribute to the engineers of the Ganzo G202B for the fact that they provided for the possibility of removing the tools without having to lay out the pliers or the multi-tool itself. But, in truth, removing the tool from the handles is clearly not the strongest point of the Ganzo G202B, and this is immediately felt. Often, in order to get to the screwdriver or awl, you need to remove adjacent tools (thereby exposing the blade or teeth of the saw) or try to pick them up for a long time. Who knows, maybe this is a temporary phenomenon due to the fact that this Ganzo G202B is completely new, but it’s better to be ready for it right away. Unfortunately, there is nothing to say about removing the instrument with frozen hands or with a glove.

After unfolding the pliers, all the tools are on the inside of the handles, thus preventing involuntary opening and possible injuries, therefore, to re-remove them, you will need to fold the entire Ganzo G202B again.

The arms with skeletonized pads (reducing the already light weight of the Ganzo G202B) are made in such a way that they smoothly taper to the base of the pliers. Lining when working with pliers when unfolded inside have wavy metal inserts that increase traction with the palm of the hand.

We will get to know each of the tools a little later, but for now a few words about pliers. As you see in the photo above, they have a very massive appearance, and use more material than the thin pliers on the Leatherman Charge TTi. Because of this, working with small objects in bottlenecks is not entirely comfortable, but with rough work this solution is justified. The lips of the pliers close tightly enough. Nippers easily cope with coins and other small items that happened to bite during testing.

Where the Compound Leverage system is located at the SOG Powerlock, the Ganzo G202B has a spring installed that spreads the lips of the pliers while relieving pressure on the tool handle. A very nice feature during long work, because It does not require the application of additional effort to release.

When using internal tools, on the contrary, the handle diverges, as it were, providing additional emphasis and prevents slipping of fingers on the working tool.

Each Ganzo G202B handle has four tools. On the one hand it is: a straight knife, an adapter for a bit holder, an awl, a saw. Brief impressions of the use of each of them, see the photo below.

The main cutting edge is a blade with a length of about 5.5 cm. Made of stainless steel 440C with a stated rigidity of 58 units of the Rockwell scale (HRC). Direct descents of 2/3 of the width retained traces of machining, but the cutting edge at the same time from the factory has quite aggressive sharpening. For greater reliability, though, I would recommend giving her a little attention before going out into the field. It is also worth noting that the edge of the blade is smoothed, apparently due to the fact that Ganzo Tools decided to pin the piercing on the awl, about which a little later.

Next to the straight blade is an adapter on which a bit holder is worn under standard hexagonal bits.

The Ganzo G202B package includes eleven bits richly oiled (to improve storage conditions) with the following tools: three flat screwdrivers (sizes 3, 5, 7), three Phillips screwdrivers (sizes 1, 2, 3, five) hexagons (hex drive) sizes 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. If desired, these bits can easily be replaced or supplemented with any other necessary tools. I especially appreciate the use of ordinary hex bits, as there is no need to purchase proprietary bitkits, and in case of wear or loss of any bit, it is not difficult to purchase it in the nearest market. The bit holder contains a magnet with which it and the bits inside it are held securely on the adapter.

The adjacent tool is an awl, with a blade about three centimeters in which there is a hole. It is suitable primarily for sewing, but remember that the holes made by this awl will be very large. You are unlikely to embroider stitching in a field, but for coarse stitching of something, for example, with threads from the inside of a paracord, it will do. The presence of a blade on an awl, in my opinion, is a useful thing, especially in the context of using its edge together with a flint to light a fire, so there is no need to spoil the cutting edge of the main blade for these purposes. In addition, it can be used to drill holes in wood and plastic for various craft purposes.

Saw Ganzo G202B has a structure quite typical for modern multitools, with two rows of deep teeth, thanks to which it bites very aggressively even into raw wood. The length of the saw is quite enough for sawing branches up to 3-3.5 cm in diameter. You can do more, but this process is not very comfortable and longer.

The following tools are located in the second handle: serreytorny knife, universal opener, flat screwdriver, scissors, about each of which read in more detail below.

Serreytorny blade intended for cutting fibrous and porous materials, ropes, slings, cords, etc. Unlike a straight knife, a serreytorn knife has a point, but the sharpness of the cutting edge seemed to me not enough. If desired, this issue can be dealt with separately.

The next tool is a universal opener, combining the ability to open both bottles and cans. And if everything is more or less simple and understandable with bottles, then tin cans will have to be opened by pushing the blade toward you while pushing the metal with the tip from the outside to the inside. The manipulation, in principle, is not difficult, but may require preliminary training, especially if you did not have to use such openers before.

At the base of the opener there is also a third tool in the form of a V-shaped serif with sharpening, which can be used to expose wires, remove the braid, etc.

A flat screwdriver is a very simple and ordinary tool, corresponding in size to a third-size bit. There is nothing special to say, except that it copes with its work. Most likely it will come in handy if a bit holder with a set of bits was not nearby. I also tend to use such screwdrivers as a small “crowbar” when I need to pry or pick something, which reduces the risk of damage to the main blade and its edge.

The final tool is scissors. On the scale of the whole Ganzo G202B, like pliers, have a very massive structure that does not spoil them. They cut confidently and conveniently. Thanks to a good spring, they are quite suitable for cutting long sections of matter, film, paper, cardboard and similar materials. When folding into the handle, the multitool is rotated 180 degrees.

Now a very important point related to the tools described above, because they DO NOT lock in the open position! They are pressed by a spring mechanism in the manner of most Swiss Army Knife, but the Ganzo G202B does not have a locking mechanism for spread out tools, so remember that if you use it incorrectly, the tools may fold onto your finger. This is especially dangerous with knives, an awl and a saw, so they should not try to knock something out with the back of the tool.

In conclusion, I would like to note that the Ganzo G202B is a pretty good full-sized multitool with a well-thought-out set of tools for field use. It contains everything necessary for the field, while it is not overloaded with purely urban tools, which, when fishing or hunting, will simply turn out to be unclaimed. Due to its impressive size and weight, I would not recommend it for EDC use, but for field needs, in my opinion, it is quite capable of becoming a reliable tool for your main survival knife.
