Despite the fact that the design of the Leatherman Rebar multitool, with its hollow handles of square section, intentionally refers to the classics, the tools and materials in it are quite consistent with modernity and Leatherman's current approach to its multifunctional tools - ease of execution, ease of use, reliability and durability. In confirmation of this, this multitool was equipped with the following features.

Similar to other models of this manufacturer, Leatherman Rebar comes in a black and yellow box, well known to the owners of its products. In addition to the logo and manufacturer’s name that is already familiar, the model and color of the product are indicated on the box, the Oregon Proud icon also flaunts, indicating the unchanged location of Leatherman products in Oregon, USA. In fairness, however, it is worth noting that it applies only to the multitools themselves, because covers and other accessories have long been manufactured in China, which allows the manufacturer to reduce operating costs and, consequently, the final cost of some products.

Inside the box you will be expected by the Leatherman Rebar multitool itself, a nylon cover for it, a plastic bag for the tool and a universal instruction that lists the tools and their main methods of application not only for Rebar, but also for a number of other models of the manufacturer.

As for the cover, everything here is also quite ascetic and traditional for the manufacturer: black nylon, rounded edges with a fringing tape, the manufacturer’s logo on the valve cover, and a small loop of an inch sling on the back. With it, you can carry your Leatherman Rebar on trouser belts up to seven centimeters wide, but you can only mount it in a vertical orientation. But that's why he and Standard Sheath, in order to yield in functionality to leather Leather Sheath and near-tactical MOLLE Sheath.

The cover of the valve cover is fixed with Velcro, and inside there is a soft lining that protects the surface of your instrument from scratches and abrasive influences.

There is enough space inside for your Leatherman Rebar, so I suggest moving smoothly from getting to know the case closer to the tool itself, since there is something to pay attention to.

From an angular box 10.1 cm long. Leatherman Rebar, when opened, turns into compact, but no less complete pliers 16 cm long. Both handles have a recess for faster access to the knife blades, and the rest are square box handles with rounded the corners are very similar to the classic pens of the first generations of Leatherman products. This feature, perhaps, gives Leatherman Rebar its certain charm, despite the relatively small age of this model in the manufacturer's product line.

As for the internal content, there are already no hints of the classics - only the modern design and functionality of the tools, only modern materials (stainless steel grades 154CM Stainless Steel and 420HC Stainless Steel) and Leatherman's inherent attention to detail. In addition to the pliers, one of the pens has five tools, and four more in the other. We will get to know them further.

Despite the fact that Leatherman Rebar is not a full-sized tool, but its pliers got all the best features of the older brothers (for example Leatherman Surge and SuperTool300), including even interchangeable cutting blades. Thanks to this feature, as the edges wear, you always have the opportunity to buy replacement blades and replace them with your tool. Replacing the entire tool with them due to wear of the wire cutters is no longer a problem, because you just need a screwdriver-sprocket, or a special key from the delivery.

Between the grips of the pliers at Leatherman Rebar are crimping tongs that can help crimp sleeves and clamps when working with electrical equipment.

With a total handle length of 10 cm, Leatherman Rebar got a straight blade made of 420HC Stainless Steel with a blade length of about 7.36 cm, which is not so small. Clip Point with the usual straight sharpening and descents in 3/4 of the width, together with a very decent factory sharpness, will serve you well. That when working with products that on wood - you can rely on this baby.

In the same handle, below the knife there is a flat screwdriver with a width of 7 mm. Very powerful slotted screwdriver without sharpening on one side, able to cope with large bolts. The lack of descent, however, will not allow using it as a small probe or crowbar to pry off or separate small objects.

In the middle is a very large awl. For work on the skin, and / or for stitching large things in the awl, there is a hole in the thread that allows threads, rope or even thin wire to pass through the material. On the reverse side, the awl has a sharpening, making it suitable for drilling holes in wood. An excellent assistant in the repair of existing, or when creating new equipment.

Below the awl is another slotted screwdriver 3 mm wide. This time it has slopes on both sides, so it can be used as a small crowbar or probe for prying and lifting some parts.

Another nice bonus in the same handle is the lanyard ring, thanks to which your Leatherman Rebar can be insured against loss by means of a paracord leash, carbine or key ring.

A locking tool in the same handle is a stainless steel file. On the one hand it has one-sided, on the other - cross-cuts, due to which it can be used both for wood processing and when working with metal. It is also useful for maintaining the cutting edges of other tools in working condition.

Let's move on to the tools in the other Leatherman Raptor handle.

Similar to the previous one, thanks to a recess in the handle, a serreytor knife made of 420HC steel is just as easily removed from it. He got one-sided sharpening and a “torn” contour of the cutting edge to facilitate the cutting of rope, burlap and fibrous materials. Unlike the main blade, the serreytorny knife does not have a sharp tip, due to which it can also be used as an emergency tool for cutting car seat belts. The blunt tip in this way will not cause further damage to the victim.

Despite its unpretentious appearance, the following tool can be used not only as an opener for bottles and cans, but also for removing external insulation from wires with several inner cores. In this case, a blunt tip will not allow you to damage the insulation of the internal wires, while removing only the outer braid. A V-shaped recess with sharpening at the base of this tool will also allow to clean the ends of the inner cores.

Near the opener is a Phillips screwdriver. Due to the curly tip, this screwdriver has a large width, and takes the place of two flat tools, but since the Leatherman Rebar does not provide for the installation of an adapter for Leatherman Bit Kit bits, the presence of this screwdriver is rather a plus than a minus.

And the final tool in the same handle is a saw. With its unprepossessing size, moderately “angry” due to bilateral sharpening and slightly different tooth depths. Multitool saws in their effectiveness have long been a head start for some hacksaw with bred teeth, and the Leatherman Rebar saw is no exception. The only minus is the small length of the canvas, because of which you have to limit your ambitions about the thickness of the processed branches.

All of the above tools in both Leatherman Rebar handles are locked by the Piano Lock mechanism, so that when unfolded they will not work on your fingers when changing angles or forces. A very compact but effective precaution if you ask me. The shutter release button in the Rebar is very large and noticeable, which allows you to use it with both bare hands and gloved hands.

At the end of the review, I will add only a few photos for a better understanding of the overall dimensions of this multitool model.

And a few more words about the positioning of Leatherman Rebar. Based on the overall dimensions and the presence of various screwdrivers, I can say that he thought mainly of urban use - its small size and weight make it comfortable to carry it in a daily bag, or even in jeans pockets. But when there is a need for it - the world has full-fledged powerful pliers, and the presence of a saw, awl, knives and file will serve you in the field. There are the necessary field tools, and at the same time the multitool is not overloaded with various kinds of screwdrivers, adapters and tools from which there is no sense in the field. Maybe that's why Leatherman Rebar was loved by fishermen, hunters, farmers and hard workers around the world.
