From May to November 2019, Norway will send personnel to Mali to participate in the UN operation MINUSMA. Norway is contributing a Hercules C-130J as a tactical transport capacity to transport personnel and cargo around Mali.

Norway participated in 2016 and is now sending a new contribution to the important mission. The Norwegian transport plane took off from Gardermoen on 7 May 2019 and landed in Mali's capital Bamako the next day.

NORTAD (Norwegian Tactical Airlift Detachment) will fly various types of cargo for the UN in Mali with one of Norway's C-130J Hercules transport aircraft.
MANY TYPES OF LOAD
This can be anything from transporting people to transporting supplies of supplies and fuel. The aircraft can also drop personnel and equipment in a parachute. There will be separate guards on the plane who will take care of the plane when it is on the ground. In addition, security personnel will be responsible for security in the camp "Camp Bifrost" and in the technical area at the airport car park.

The UN has a great need for air transport in Mali, and the Norwegian contribution is therefore both long-awaited and important.

The detachment from Norway consists of around 60 women and men with backgrounds from various disciplines that are necessary to solve the assignment. The detachment will be in Mali for 6 months. The Norwegians who deploy to Mali live in "Camp Bifrost", which is located in the capital Bamako.
