Retired Navy SEAL Sean Matson launched Strike Force Energy in January 2016 and now his energy drink product is undergoing market trials in select 7-Eleven stores near military installations in Hampton Roads.

"We're not afraid to compete with Red Bull," Matson said. "Our American-made product is healthier, lighter and doesn't have an aftertaste. They even mix better in cocktails as was recently experienced at a launch party at Hot Tuna in Virginia Beach."

Strike Force Energy operates in Virginia Beach with the product currently manufactured in Palmetto, Fla., according to a news release. The business is taking off with sales projected to be $1.8 million this year, according to Strike Force.

Strike Force Energy has a line of four flavors -- original, grape, lemon and orange -- available in packets or 750-milliter pump bottles, according to a news release.

The liquid packet is squeezed into water and no stirring is required. It fits in a pocket and doesn't contain sugar, calories or additives found in other energy beverage products. Each packet contains 160 milligrams of caffeine, which is slightly more than a Starbucks grande latte.
