Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L is a three-liter modular tank from the American giant Camelbak for maintaining the water-salt balance.
Camelbak has long been well known as a manufacturer of hydration products for the needs of the military and security forces. The hero of our today's review - Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L, is, de facto, the basis of this recognition. It is for this model of the tank that Camelbak has released the No less recognizable line of Camelbak Thermobak 2L\3L results, which have maintained the water-salt balance of their owners since the days of Desert Storm. Not the least role in the distribution of Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L was played by its design features, namely:
- HydroGuard antibacterial coating on tank and hose walls prevents the growth of microorganisms.
- Big Bite Valve mouthpiece made of medical grade silicone.
- Modular HydroLink system for compatibility with Camelbak accessories and third party products.

The review below shows the Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L in Black with a black hose cover.
At the front of the packaging, the Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L is a clear bag that showcases the main features of the reservoir: mouthpiece, HydroLink port plug and fill cap. At the top of the bag is a cardboard sheet with the manufacturer's logo, model name and tank capacity.
At the back of the package, through the bag, you can see the lower edge of the tank and the hose. And the cardboard sheets list the key features and uses of the HydroLink modular connector with compatible accessories. We will return to them later.
The Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L kit includes the following components: three liter reservoir, reservoir lid, hose with HydroLink connectors, HydroLink cap and Big Bite Valve mouthpiece. Next, I'll explain how to use each of these components, but for now, pay attention to the presence of a black neoprene sleeve on the hose. It will protect the water inside from ultraviolet radiation and heat in such a way that you drink cool water from the tank, and not warm water that was heated in the sun while in the hose.
The original plastic HydroLink connector is located in the lower third of the front wall of the tank. Along with the Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L, you will also receive a HydroLink Port Plug, which can be used to seal the tank outlet. Thus, you can turn the tank into fur for long-term storage or transportation of water. While the hose is attached to one Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L, the other reservoirs can be capped. So there is a supply of water, and at the same time, there is no need to carry several hoses with you. Also, using the HydroLink Port Plug, you can leave the hose secured to the equipment, and remove the reservoir from the pouch or backpack for maintenance, cleaning or filling.
The filling hole is located in the upper third of the tank. This is a plastic cap, behind which is a neck with a diameter of 5 centimeters. The thread of the cap seals the neck tightly, and the manufacturer claims that even when the tank is rotated, compressed and deformed, the cap will not leak. Indeed, Camelbak is well known for its reliability and stability.
The relatively wide mouth facilitates filling, for which various taps, bottles with narrow and wide necks, as well as 5-20 liter bottles with a wide mouth can be used. But five centimeters, unfortunately, is not enough for full-fledged maintenance of the tank - completely stick your hand inside for cleaning, drying, etc. you will not succeed, so you will have to use additional funds.
On the opposite side of the hose is 112 cm long. There is a lever for adjusting the water supply, and the inlet connector of the HydroLink system. Using the lever marked On / Off, you can start or stop the flow of water through the hose. In the lower position, the supply is open, so you can drink water from the tank, in the upper position, it is closed. By positioning the lever between the two extreme points, you can adjust the volume of water supply and the effort you need to apply it.
The HydroLink provides the ability to mount a variety of mouthpieces, other accessories from Camelbak or third party manufacturers. With its help, you can continue hoses, install mouthpieces under various protective equipment (closed helmets, gas masks, etc.), water filters and other accessories.
To extend the life of the Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L during long-term storage, I would recommend leaving the valve open and disconnecting all accessories from the hose to allow ventilation inside the hose and dry the surface better.
The Big Bite Valve is a longitudinal valve made of soft medical grade silicone. In the center of the mouthpiece there is a slot with tightly drawn walls. Biting on the zipper deforms the silicone and spreads the walls of the opening, opening the neck of the hose. In order to drink you will have to open the lever to the On position, bite down on the mouthpiece and begin to absorb water through the hose. The Big Bite Valve mounts into the HydroLink and can be replaced with a different mouthpiece or other accessories if needed.
An example of a joint accessory is the Aquamira Frontier Pro Military portable water filter pictured above. It will be needed when dirty water is collected inside the tank from an existing source without preliminary purification, and its filtration occurs already in the drinking process. And although I would not recommend filling the tank with dirty water with a rich microflora, but in conditions of hostilities, reconnaissance or patrol raids, this possibility is not always present. As you can see, the Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L is designed to be useful and effective even in sub-optimal use cases.
All in all, the Camelbak Long Neck Water Beast 3L is a capacious and reliable water tank you can rely on in tough conditions. It will support you with active mobility and long distances between replenishment points, and the modular HydroLink connector easily makes it part of large and complex systems for maintaining water and salt balance in the field.
