Source WXP 2L Storm Valve Hydration System - a compact tank for transporting two liters of water from the Israeli company Source.
Along with the civilian version of WXP LP tanks in the Source product line, there are also army versions of it. They differ mainly in the absence of an expansion limiter, the color of the tank (Coyote instead of Blue) and hose covers in more muffled, less noticeable colors. Otherwise, like the civilian version, they are available in two versions for two and three liters, and contain the following features.
- Widepac ™ neck for easy in-tank access and maintenance.
- The smooth glassy surface of Glass-Like ™ and the anti-bacterial coating of Grunge-Guard ™ prevent the development of microorganisms.
- Source Quick Mate Technology (QTM) valves on the hose for quick disconnection of the system without leaks.
- Angled Storm-Valve ™ mouthpiece and Dirt Shield ™ protective cover included.
- Main material: three-layer film of extruded polyethylene.
- Does not contain polyvinyl chloride (PVC-Free) and bisphenol (BPA-Free).
- Available colors: Coyote tank with hose braid in Black, Olive, IRR Coyote, IRR Foliage colors.

As you may know, most classic three-liter tanks, and pouches for them, extend beyond the armored covers in height. This imposes certain restrictions on the range of movements and the use of pouches placed on a belt or combat belt in the lumbar region. In addition, for many short-term tasks and operations, three liters of water may be in excess, because the tank is not completely filled. And if this solves the problem of overweight, then with excessive volumes of the tank and the cover for it it does not help. But two-liter tanks, like the Source WXP 2L, can be a great solution for such situations.

Source WXP 2L is delivered in a cardboard box, through the front wall of which the key features of the tank are visible and accessible - the Widepac ™ neck and the lid for filling the tank.
The reverse side of the package highlights the design features and technologies used in the tank, some of which we already mentioned at the beginning of the review.
The tank itself is made of a three-layer polyethylene film of dark brown color and in an empty state has dimensions of about 19.5 cm x 37.5 cm x 2.5 cm (width \ height \ depth). The material does not contain polyvinyl chloride and bisphenol, which makes it suitable for food use. Tactile film is denser and tougher than on Camelbak products, but, like it, has a small margin of elasticity.
The back wall of the tank is completely smooth, because of which there is no discomfort during transportation close to the back, and all the covers, valves and other parts are on the front wall of the tank. We will consider them in more detail.
In the upper third of the front wall of the Source WXP 2L, there is a 5 cm hole under the black cover, with which you can quickly refuel the tank. It is unscrewed by anti-clockwise movement and has a small safety lanyard, which prevents the loss of cover. The second side of the lanyard is attached to a plastic platform, which, like the lid, is screwed onto the same thread. In addition to unscrewed cover insurance, this platform also presses a flat handle for transporting the tank. If desired, it can be disconnected, but I would not advise doing this, because with it, filling the tank through the neck becomes significantly easier. In addition to filling the tank, this lid is used for little reason, and all because this tank has the patented technology of locking the mouth of Source Widepac ™. This design made the name of Source at the time and became its hallmark. Unlike most competitors, increasing the diameter of the lid to provide comfortable access to the inside of the tank, Source applied the solution with something resembling the neck of a pressure bag and a slider bag at the same time. So in the upper part of the tank there is a lapel from the main material and a more rigid cross-member around which it is bent. The system is locked with a slat with a slot that slides longitudinally on the cross member. As a result, you get a reliable connection without the slightest possibility of leakage. In the center, the outer bar has a hole for fixing the tank inside backpacks and pouches, and, like a lid, it is also insured against loss by a micro cord cord.
Source Widepac ™ makes it easy to access the inside of the tank for maintenance, and most importantly, it drains all the liquid to the last drop. In addition, the reservoir can also be filled from almost any source (especially bottles and flasks) without spilling a single drop outside the neck. Such a neck, together with a smooth glassy Glass-Like ™ inner surface and Grunge-Guard ™ antibacterial coating, significantly reduce the chance of bacteria accumulating and developing inside the tank, and the need for maintenance.
At the bottom of the Source WXP 2L tank is a connector with Quick Mate Technology (QTM) and an integrated valve. With it, a hose with a length of 94 cm is connected to the tank, and when it is disconnected, the fluid flow is blocked. The presence of a built-in valve allows you to transport and store the tank separately from the hose, which can be passed through the straps of backpacks, armor and unloading vests, without the need to use plugs or additional accessories.
Source WXP 2L hose has a black cover that blocks the access of ultraviolet radiation, which stimulates the growth of bacteria, inside the hose. By blocking sunlight, the case also reduces the temperature of the fluid held inside the hose, which will not be superfluous at high ambient temperatures.
At the other end of the hose, there is also a QTM connector with a rocker button, which connects the supplied Storm Valve ™ mouthpiece. In addition to it, extension hoses and other accessories such as, for example, the Aquamira Frontier Pro filter can also be connected here. For best compatibility, you will need the QTM expansion gum from the filter kit.
Unlike Camelbak’s Bite Valve, Source mouthpieces are not straight, they have a 90 degree bend and do not contain biting parts. According to the manufacturer, this increases the speed of passage of water by 25%. The fluid supply is provided by pulling the mouthpiece cap. During long-term storage or transportation, it is possible to lock its position in the closed state by turning the lid about a quarter of a turn.
Also a pleasant fact is the presence of a cover that protects the mouthpiece from dust and dirt, in the basic configuration of the product. Thus, there is no need to buy it separately. The mouthpiece cover, like all other detachable parts, also has a small safety lanyard to prevent loss.
In general, despite the compact size, the functionality of the Source WXP 2L is quite up to par. Distinctive features, namely simplicity and an aim for the end user, are felt in almost every detail. Source WXP 2L is easy to fill, easy to empty, and there is virtually no need to maintain it due to a well-thought-out, verified design and quality execution.
