Army Combat Pants FR are fireproof pants supplied to the US Armed Forces under government defense contracts.
The experience of the US Armed Forces from participation in conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan has proved that fireproof clothing is needed not only for pilots and crews of ground combat equipment. Protection from open flames and high temperatures is also needed by mechanized infantry, helicopter crews and mobile forces that disembark from them, marines, sappers, machine gunners, special forces and other categories of military personnel. And the climate of Iraq and Afghanistan also added a number of requirements for comfortable long-term wearing: ventilation, vapor permeability, wear resistance at a level with non-fireproof uniforms.
The use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), suicide bombers, and the frequent destruction of equipment using hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers (RPGs) have led to burns becoming a common secondary factor of injury. An ordinary uniform made of synthetic materials melts under the influence of an open flame and high temperatures, complicating the processing and subsequent healing of burns. Therefore, the servicemen needed comfortable fire-resistant clothing that could withstand this threat. The response was the Army Combat Shirt (ACS) and Army Combat Pants (ACP) programs, which spawned garments with the prefix Fire Resistant (FR).
Army Combat Pants FR is an effective combination of fireproof qualities with long-term comfort, not inferior to the characteristics of regular field pants. The following features help them in this.

The front of the Army Combat Pants FR is somewhat reminiscent of the pants from the regular Army Combat Uniform (ACU), but immediately striking are the knee inserts that are compatible with the integrated knee pads, like the Combat Pants from Crye Precision. In addition, two more welt pockets are available at the front.
There are two pockets on the back and Velcro for adjusting the fit of the integrated knee pads.
On the side, each side of the Army Combat Pants FR has a large cargo pocket on the thigh and a smaller one on the shin. But let's look at all the listed features from top to bottom in a little more detail.
On the front of the belt, on both sides of the fly, which is fastened with four buttons, located by two slots for belts. The width of the slots is 2 cm, the height is 5.5 cm, which allows the use of trousers with standard belts for uniforms about 4 cm wide.
Two flat Velcro straps extend from the outer pair of slots on both sides, with which you can pull off the trouser belt without using a belt.

Front pockets of Army Combat Pants FR have an inclined neckline 16.5 cm wide. The angle of inclination is convenient for passing the wrist through the neck to access the inner space of pockets measuring 18 cm X 32 cm (width / height). As you can see, the pockets are not small, but they are suitable for comfortable carrying of mostly flat items. Unfortunately, there is no core material reinforcement in the corner of the pocket, which reduces material abrasion when carrying pocket knives, flashlights and other items with metal clips.
The back pockets of the fireproof trousers are protected by a 6 cm high flap. The flap is fixed when closed with two plastic buttons and protects a 17 cm X 17 cm pocket (width / height) from dust, sand, small debris and precipitation. If desired, the flap can be pushed into the neck to speed up access to the pocket, so you don't have to lift it every time.
The Army Combat Pants FR hip pockets are patch pockets and act as the main container for transporting the necessary equipment. The neck of the pockets is protected by a 6 cm high flap, which is also fixed with buttons. But in this case, there are not two, but already three. On the back, you can choose a suitable button, depending on the degree of filling the pocket. Pockets measuring 23 cm x 21 cm (width / height) allow you to place very large items inside, and three folds on the outer wall expand to increase the internal space when filling.
The inner space of the thigh pockets is worth investigating separately, and there are two reasons for this.
The first one is located under the flap on the front of the pocket. A vertical sling with a plastic retainer is brought here, which are used to adjust the position of the integrated knee pads in height. If you loosen this sling, the knee pads will move down, if tightened, they will rise higher. the position of the integrated knee pads can thus be adapted to the height and individual wishes of the user.
The second is under the flap at the back of the pocket. Here is a shock cord with a plastic retainer, which is responsible for tightening the neck of the pocket. It can be used when you have filled your pocket to the top and would like to press the contents closer to your leg. So you can reduce the displacement of the load, as well as securely fix it with the buttons on the valve.
On the knees of the pants, there are added pads of a characteristic shape, where integrated knee pads can be mounted. In the upper half of the pad there is a hole through which the soft part of the knee pad is passed inward. This hole is closed with a special Velcro flap. If you do not use integrated knee pads, it is advisable to keep this valve in a raised position so that dirt, dust and small debris do not get inside. If the knee pads are installed, it is enough to peel off the valve and lower it inside the hole along with the knee pad damper.
Along the knee pads, two Velcro straps are sewn into the side seams of Army Combat Pants FR. Their task is to regulate the positioning of the knee pads and their tightness to the user's legs. For a better hold, it is better to tighten these Velcro straps more tightly. If you do not need knee pads, and free air circulation is more important, you can loosen these Velcro.

Leg pockets are located on the side and slightly below the knee pads. These pockets with Velcro flap are designed to transport dressing bags and harnesses in case of critical injuries of the lower limbs. Pocket size 10.5 x 17 x 2.5 cm (width / height / depth) is enough to fit inside a 10 cm wide NAR Emergency Trauma Dressing bag or a folded NAR Combat Application Tourniquet (C-A-T) tourniquet.
